ABOUT US

The Half Full Pickle is an annual, all-inclusive pickleball event dedicated to raising awareness and support for mental health through community, connection, and play. Whether you’ve never picked up a paddle, are just getting the hang of the game, or already love it — this event welcomes you with open arms. Started by Amer Nabil, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and founder of Half Full Psychiatry in Glastonbury, CT, the event was inspired by his personal experience finding joy and connection through pickleball. The day invites beginners and those who’ve never played to jump on the court and simply experience the sport — win or lose — in a welcoming and supportive environment. We’ll also appreciate your feedback after you play, which will help guide future research on pickleball and its mental health benefits.

Children aged 16 and under will have a dedicated court where they can enjoy the game with peers in a safe and inclusive space. However, please note that underage children should not be left unattended and must be supervised by a parent or guardian. A beginner- and intermediate-friendly doubles tournament will also be held, where partners will be assigned randomly — encouraging participants to build new connections with people they may have never met. Winners will be awarded the coveted Half Full Pickle championship belts and a prize valued up to $500 toward indoor pickleball memberships. A $5 donation is appreciated per adult (children under 16 play free), with all proceeds going to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

This is more than just a game — it’s a movement for connection, hope, and healing. Whether you’re curious about the sport or simply want to support a meaningful cause, swing by, try something new, and stand for something bigger. Let’s rally for mental health — together.
